ସଂକ୍ଷିପ୍ତସାର | Abstract
ମହାଭାରତ ମହାସମୁଦ୍ର ପରି ବିଶାଳ ଓ ବିସ୍ତୃତ। ମହାସମୁଦ୍ର ଯେପରି ଲବଣାକ୍ତ ହୋଇଥିଲେ ସୁଦ୍ଧା ତା’ ଗର୍ଭରେ ଗଚ୍ଛିତ କରି ରଖିପାରେ ଅମୃତ ସମେତ ନାନାଦି ଅମୂଲ୍ୟ ରତ୍ନ। ସେହିପରି ସାରଳା ମହାଭାରତ ତା’ର ସମସ୍ତ ଲୌକିକଲିପ୍ତତା ସତ୍ୱେ ଆମକୁ ଦେଇଥାଏ ବିଶ୍ୱାସନୀୟ ବାସ୍ତବ ସମାଜର ରୀତିନୀତି ଓ ସଂସ୍କୃତିର ମଧୁର ପରିଚୟ। ରାଜକୀୟ ଜୀବନଠାରୁ ଆରମ୍ଭ କରି ସାଧାରଣ ଜୀବନସ୍ତରୀୟ ଉପାଦାନ ଏହାର ଅଙ୍ଗୀଭୂତ। ମୂଳ ମହାଭାରତର ଛାଂଚକୁ ଗ୍ରହଣ କରି ସାରଳା ମହାଭାରତ ସମ୍ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ଏକ ନୂତନ ମହାଭାରତରେ ପରିଣତ ହୋଇଛି। ଦାସକବିଙ୍କ ପ୍ରତିଭା ଓ କଳ୍ପନା ବଳରୁ ଅନ୍ୟାନ୍ୟ ଦେଶୀୟ ଭାଷାରେ ରଚିତ ମହାଭାରତ ଅପେକ୍ଷା ଓଡ଼ିଆ ମହାଭାରତ ଆଜି ଦାବିକରେ ଏକ ମୌଳିକ ମହାଭାରତର ପରିଚୟ। ମୟାଧାର ମାନସିଂହ ସ୍ୱ ପୁସ୍ତକ ‘ମାଟିର ମହାକବି ସାରଳା ଦାସ’ରେ ଏହି ପରିଚୟକୁ ଆମ ଆଗରେ ବଳିଷ୍ଠ ଭାବେ ଉପସ୍ଥାପନ କରିଛନ୍ତି। ତାହାର ବିଶ୍ଳେଷଣ ଉକ୍ତ ନିବନ୍ଧର ପ୍ରଧାନ ଲକ୍ଷ୍ୟ।

The Mahabharata is vast and expansive, much like an immense ocean. Just as the ocean, despite being saline, holds within its depths nectar and innumerable precious gems, so too does the Sarala Mahabharata, notwithstanding its overtly worldly orientation, offer a profound and authentic portrayal of the social customs, cultural practices, and lived realities of society. From royal life to the everyday experiences of common people, all strata of social existence find organic representation within it.
While adopting the structural framework of the original Mahabharata, the Sarala Mahabharata undergoes a complete transformation, emerging as an entirely new epic. Owing to the creative genius and imaginative power of the poet Sarala Das, the Odia Mahabharata today asserts itself as a distinctly original epic, surpassing other vernacular versions composed in different regional languages.
In his seminal work Matira Mahakabi Sarala Das (Sarala Das: The Poet of the Soil), Mayadhar Mansingh forcefully foregrounds and substantiates this unique identity of the Odia Mahabharata. A critical analysis of Mansingh’s interpretation and evaluation of Sarala Das, as articulated in this work, constitutes the central objective of the present essay.
