The Charyapada, composed in the aftermath of the Apabhramsha, is considered the first example of the Odia language. Its savior was the great Bengali poet Haraprasad Shastri. The place of salvation was the royal court of Nepal. The book that Shastri Ji found contained two types of content. One was a song about religious rituals and the other was a poem. Shastri Ji named it ‘Buddhgaan o Doha’. The Charyapada became a highly poetical work of art, covering religion, language theory, the philosophy of life and soul, and the stages of Nirvana in women. The female characters depicted in the Charyapada are not only important from a social point of view but also a symbol of a deep spiritual feeling. Here, woman is the basic basis of wisdom or power. Man is another name for means. Moksha is attained through the combination of means and wisdom. Some consider wisdom to be ‘soul’. ‘Love’ here is the spiritual unity. Union is another name for Moksha. In Charyapaada, ‘woman’ is the subject of a deep philosophical analysis. Here, she is not a part of worldly life but a source of spiritual power. Based on Tantric Buddhist philosophy, the Charyapaada discusses how the female characters described can achieve Nirvana.
